چکیده

The final developments of a prosthetic hand, the Touch Hand, were made near the end of 2013. This hand was aimed at addressing the lack of sensory feedback in prosthetic hand technology. This paper discusses the technology and improvements on commercial prosthetic hands and the Touch Hand, whilst giving a brief insight into recent technological advances. These improvements are used to form a set of design objectives for the next iteration in design, the Touch Hand II. The associated research aims to contribute to low-cost and simplified mechanical and electronic design alternatives in hand prosthetics. Keywords—commercial prosthetics; new prosthetic technology; review; improvements; Touch Hand

A sensational illusion: vision-touch synaesthesia and the rubber hand paradigm.

For individuals with vision-touch synaesthesia, the sight of touch on another person elicits synaesthetic tactile sensation on the observer's own body. Here we used the traditional rubber hand paradigm (Botvinick and Cohen, 1998) and a no-touch rubber hand paradigm to investigate and to authenticate synaesthetic tactile sensation. In the traditional rubber hand paradigm, the participant views a...

Sensory feedback from a prosthetic hand based on air-mediated pressure from the hand to the forearm skin.

OBJECTIVE Lack of sensory feedback is a drawback in today's hand prostheses. We present here a non-invasive simple sensory feedback system, which provides the user of a prosthetic hand with sensory feedback on the arm stump. It is mediated by air in a closed loop system connecting silicone pads on the prosthetic hand with pads on the amputation stump. The silicone pads in a "tactile display" on...

Electro-tactile Feedback System for a Prosthetic Hand

Without the sense of touch, amputees with prosthetic hands can have difficulty holding and manipulating objects, especially when a task requires some degree of skill and tactile feedback to perform. To equip prosthetic hand users with touch sensing and tactile feedback, researchers have been experimenting with various types of force and/or tactile sensors together with various methods for deliv...

Adding Tactile Sense to Prosthetics through Intracortical Microstimulation

The last two hundred years have seen many advancements in prosthetic limb technology, but only minimal improvements in dexterity and grip. This is partially due to the lack of tactile sensation in prostheses. To remedy this problem, researchers are applying brain implant technology called intracortical microstimulation. Intracortical microstimulation of the brain’s somatosensory cortex can be u...
